SUNGURA artiste Peter Moyo ventures into unchartered territory when he performs at Blue Bar in Mbare’s Beatrice Cottages this weekend.

The place previously referred to as the elite of the sprawling suburb used to host only small bands and jazz outfits before it was transformed by thenew proprietors recently whose thrust until now has been DJs.
A member of the management Owen Mudakureva told NewsDay that apart from their drive to revitalise the culture of beer gardens they also sought to promote upcoming talent.
He said they were delighted to be working with the Young Igwe as Moyo is popularly known.
“Peter is a young musician who has a huge task to satisfy his late father’s market by at least attempting to reach his magnitude. Unfair as it may sound, it is inevitable and if club owners do not support him, he will just be an addition to the statistics of musical failures,” said Mudakureva.
“We have embarked on a programme that will see us bring in more and more live performers. It is a culture that beer gardens are known for and may die if we do not continue.”

The club recently hosted raunchy dancer Zoey Sifelani alongside Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria. Peter would be supported by former Tryson Chimbetu manager Nyasha Mugari for the show.
Although the Young Igwe’s voice, which was a cause for worry soon after taking up the throne from his late father in 2011, has vastly improved, he finds himself relegated from the elite that many prefer to call the creme de la creme of local music.
