DeMbare on the prowl for strikers

DYNAMOS will use their pre-season international friendly matches, including the tie against Zambian outfit Kabwe Warriors at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, to look for top-notch strikers, with their new Portuguese coach, Paulo Jorge Silva declaring the former Premier Soccer League champions have to strike gold this term.

The Glamour Boys, winners of the coveted title under former coach Kalisto Pasuwa for four successive years, failed to defend their title last term after they were beaten to the trophy by Chicken Inn.

Silva strongly believes Dynamos, as one of the biggest teams in the country, being runners is not consistent with their status.

After watching the players at his disposal, he has not been impressed, particularly by the strikers, and wants to beef up that department with at least two forwards from abroad.

DeMbare strikers include Roderick Mutuma, Takesure Chinyama, Richard Kawondera, Farai Mupasiri and Kelvin Bulaji.

Dynamos president, Keni Mubaiwa yesterday said the technical team would get the opportunity to scout for talented strikers when they play the Zambian team.

“We are still looking for one or two strikers and since we are going to play Kabwe Warriors on Sunday, the technical team will have an opportunity to assess and see if they can sign anyone in that team,” he said.

“We will also be going to Malawi and Tanzania in our pre-season preparations and if they find a striker whom they think is good enough to play for us, we will sign him.”

Dynamos will also use the friendly match against Kabwe Warriors to introduce their new signings to their supporters. After playing Kabwe Warriors, the Harare giants are set to travel to Malawi and Tanzania where they will take on Big Bullets and Young Africans.

Dynamos, who lost midfielder Ronald Chitiyo and defender Blessing Moyo to Harare City, went on to sign several players, including former Caps United midfielder Dominic Mukandi, ex-Highlanders forward Valentine Ndaba, their former midfielder Archiford Gutu and the Triangle duo of midfielder Tichaona Chipunza and goalkeeper Ashley Reyners.
