He said the trust is made up of 10 trustees from various walks of life from all the sectors of the value addition chain.

“The BAT Zimbabwe Empowerment Trust has visited 42 vocational centres in the country and has managed to come up with one vocational training centre in Mount Darwin which is a tobacco growing province.

“The centre will be offering diploma courses that are certified by Bindura University of Science and Education,” Nyabadza said.

Nyabadza said the training institution would be able to enroll 150 students for the programmes. The trust, he said, would provide 50% of the funding required for students.

Speaking at the same event, Chaminuka Vocational Training Centre projects manager Vimbai Makumbe said the vocational centre would be offering tobacco programmes which have been certified by Bindura University of Science and Education and was targeting to enrol 150 students.

“These tobacco courses are registered with the Bindura University of Science Education and the certificates and diplomas will be issued by the university,” he said.

Makumbe said the “entry requirements for the programme is a minimum 5 “O” Level passes but we have managed to negotiate for the people with less than 5 “O”Levels, to at least secondary education with at least 3 “O”Levels”.
