Don’t be used by political crooks: MP

ZENGEZA West MP Simon Chidakwa (MDC-T) has warned the electorate to be wary of being abused by “political crooks” that incite them to use violence against their political adversaries while they wine and dance with their opponents in Parliament.

Chidakwa was addressing hundreds of people from his constituency during the handover of groceries he donated to elderly people in Chitungwiza.

“My advice to you here is that when political crooks come to you, urging you to beat up people because you do not share the same political views, refuse and tell them to do it themselves,” he said.

“They will be abusing you because if you were to see us in Parliament, we get along very well and even buy each other drinks.”

Chidakwa also castigated government for doing little in carrying out its constitutional mandate of looking after the elderly and the vulnerable.

“The Zanu PF government has run down this economy and is forcing us to go beyond our legislative and oversight roles. We now have to dig deep into our pockets and seek ways to provide for the vulnerable in our constituencies,” he said.

“According to Section 21 of our Constitution, the State and all institutions of government at every level must endeavour, within the limits of resources available to them to provide facilities, food and social care for the elderly persons who are in need.”
