GOSPEL musician Mathias Mhere on Wednesday night pocketed nearly $3 000 following an auction carried out during his fifth album launch at a colourful ceremony held at Rainbow Hotel in Harare.

The 10-track album titled Double Double raked in a total of $2 850 with the first bidder, Tawanda Chirwa from Chirwa International Tours, grabbing the first CD for $750.

Other copies went for between $80 and $100 during an event attended by Kuwadzana East legislator Nelson Chamisa, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke, and fellow gospel musicians Mudiwa Mutandwa, Munyaradzi Munodawafa and Fungisai-Zvakavapano-Mashavave.

In attendance were several church leaders from Harare and Gweru.

High riding musician Jah Prayzah, who was the guest of honour, described Mhere as a diligent musician and urged him not to look back.

“I am glad that my friend Mathias has gone this far in the music industry. This is a sign of hard work and I urge him to continue releasing albums,” said Jah Prayzah.

Songs on the album include Makorokoza Muchurch, Nhau YaNoah, Elijah NaMwari, Kesari, Chanza, Simba, Nhava Yebenzi, Jatropha and Zimbabwe.

The Favour singer said that he was excited that he had finallylaunched the album.

“It is not easy to launch an album, it is stressing, but I thank God that finally the album is now on the market. I have done my part and I expect that many souls will be brought to Christ,” he said.

The album was recorded at The Voice of Thunder (VOT) Studios.With most of his albums proving to be a success, the Gutu-born musician is hoping to continue on the same trajectory.

The album Anoita Minana that carried the hit song Favour that saw the musician becoming popular was followed by Nguva Yenyasha that also did well on the market. Mhere’s previous albums include Tinoda Nyasha, Anoita Minana, Nguva YeNyasha and Glory to Glory.
