Highlanders are believed to have demanded R1 million for the permanent transfer of the player, but Wits have made their offer which will be tabled to the Bulawayo giants.

Mutizwa is currently away in Rwanda with the Warriors at the Chan tournament, but that has not stalled progress with his manager Gibson Mahachi working to finalise the move.

Mahachi was in South Africa last week where he met with the Wits officials and is now expected to meet with Highlanders to discuss the Clever Boys’ offer.

“The deal is still on, but there are new developments. I just arrived yesterday night from South Africa,” Mahachi said. “Highlanders put a price tag on Mutizwa, but I cannot reveal the figures. I met with Wits and they have made a counter-offer. I am phoning Highlanders to set up a meeting to discuss the offer and I am sure by the end of the week, we will be having something concrete.”

Mahachi said the arrangement is such that if Bidvest Wits sign Mutizwa, they will immediately loan him back to Highlanders until June.

Wits recently signed 30-year-old English striker James Keene who has also tried his luck with giants Kaizer Chiefs and there were fears that Mutizwa’s impending deal could collapse.

The 22-year-old Mutizwa scored 14 goals in 17 starts for Highlanders last season to land the Castle Lager Golden Boot award and extended his stay at Bosso by a year and the Bulawayo giants will benefit immensely from his transfer to Wits if it materialises.
