FUZ hosts awareness programme for players

The Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) is hosting a Players out of contract training camp as a way of raising awareness for players to make an informed decisions when they sign contracts with clubs.

The three-day camp begins in Harare tomorrow under the theme Game changers: Protect players’ rights.

FUZ programmes officer, Vaidah Makotsa said the union intended to use a holistic approach in tackling matters to do with players.

“The main aim of this project is to help professional footballers, who have not yet signed contracts with any team in the search for a new club. There are some players, who do not get an opportunity to approach different clubs to negotiate for a contract or to showcase their talent, hence, this will present a platform for them to impress various Premiership administrators who are set to attend the programme,” she said.

Makotsa added that the players would be offered a comprehensive training programme, which will include friendly matches on the last day of the camp.

Coaches from different clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and a number from Division One, physical trainers, representatives from the media, various football administrators, PSL referees and dieticians are set to attend.

“The high quality training sessions will be designed to enhance physical abilities, develop and increase tactical as well as technical skills and to achieve the harmony necessary to perform at the highest level of football,” Makotsa said, adding that a number of stakeholders in the football fraternity would be given a platform to address players on contract negotiation, various contractual obligations, health and hygiene, expectations of referees and that the media would address them with regard to the face of football from the media’s angle.

She said a similar programme would be held in Bulawayo from February 3 to 6.

“With better funding, FUZ wishes to take this to all regions to ensure the every player from every region gets a chance to showcase their talent and be scouted.
Registration is currently in progress at the FUZ offices, Bay 9, National Sports Stadium.”
