THE death toll due to road accidents since Christmas Eve has risen to 30 after three more people died on Sunday.

Although the figure is lower than that of the same period last year, police have cautioned motorists to observe road regulations and rules.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said 48 accidents occurred on Sunday while three fatalities and 31 injuries were reported on the same day.
On Boxing Day, 10 people died in 59 accidents recorded countrywide.
The figure included that of five people who died when a Nissan Sunny collided head-on with a Corsa Lite along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road in the morning.
According to police, the Nissan Sunny which had six people on board was heading towards Zvishavane while the Corsa with South African registration numbers was Gweru-bound with four people on board.

Four people aboard the Corsa Lite died on the spot while one passenger from the Nissan Sunny died upon admission at Zvishavane District Hospital.
Initial investigations showed that the driver of the Nissan Sunny encroached onto the right lane resulting in the head-on collision.
Nyathi said police impounded 69 unroadworthy vehicles on Sunday. On the same day last year, 106 vehicles were impounded.
The festive season always records the worst accidents as there is a lot of movement and excitement which comes with the celebrations.
