The only none-core team taking part in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournament, the Cheetahs lost their pool matches on Saturday against hosts South Africa (26-5), England (43-0) and Kenya (36-0).

Danny Hondo’s charges were then relegated to the Bowl quarterfinals, where they lost their match against Wales 21-12.

CHEETAHS

The Cheetahs still had another opportunity to salvage some lost pride in the Shield quarterfinals, but were no match against a rampant Samoa side which ran in five tries to secure a comfortable 33-0 victory.

Zimbabwe will now shift their attention to the final rugby sevens qualification tournament for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Monaco from June 18-19.

The Cheetahs will compete against Uruguay, Chile, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Russia, Germany, Ireland, Hong Kong, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Samoa, Morocco and Tunisia for the one remaining place for Rio 2016.

The winner will join Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand, Great Britain, Argentina, USA, France, Japan, Australia, Kenya and hosts Brazil at Rio 2016
