World headquarters’ representative of Jehovah’s Witnesses yesterday urged 21 231 people that came out to listen to his special address across the country to pray incessantly to Jehovah with full trust that God will take care of their needs and provide them with the power to cope with life’s problems.

The representative, John Ekrann, in a special delivery entitled Safeguard Your Heart, also encouraged Witnesses to keep reading and meditating God’s Word, the Bible, for them to make wise decisions in solving life’s complicated challenges.

Ekrann’s extraordinary public discourse to about 3 000 Witnesses at the Harare Assembly Hall was also video-streamed live to over 200 Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses out of a total of 452 around the country. He also counselled Witnesses to set personal goals and vigorously support God’s work, saying this system of things was fast-approaching its painful climax.

Ekrann said world events pointed to deteriorating world conditions and only Jehovah God could rescue humankind, despite efforts by world leaders.

“It’s true we are living in the last days of this system of things. But we want to survive. Only righteous people will survive. Are we serving God and do we have a good relationship with God? Jehovah knows what’s in our heart. Are we a spiritual person?” he asked.

“Let us communicate to Jehovah through prayer. Let’s read his letter from the Bible. Let’s talk about Jehovah by delivering the Good News of His Kingdom; indeed let’s have friends in his organisation. We should not wait for emergencies so that we can find out if God can answer our prayers.”

He added: “Our prayers must come from the heart. Are we busy to say: ‘Thank you to Jehovah for giving us life?’ We must meditate what we read from the Bible. Witnesses must attend meetings so that they continue to be encouraged.”

The special talk came hardly a month after Jehovah’s Witnesses organised 39 regional conventions in six languages: Chinese, English, Tonga, Shona, Ndebele and Zimbabwe Sign Language — at 22 different venues in Zimbabwe.

Spokesperson for the organisation, John Hunguka, said 1 552 people were baptised at the just-ended conventions which were attended by 94 995 congregants countrywide.

Hunguka also said Ekrann had encouraged all to preach the Good News of God’s Kingdom with zeal and never to allow anything to stop them from the life-saving work.

“Ekrann encouraged all to set personal goals and exert themselves vigorously in God’s work. He also urged members to befriend those with good morals so that they keep building up one another in faith,” Hunguka said.

“About 200 Kingdom Halls (Jehovah’s Witnesses places of worship) around Zimbabwe were connected to this talk through video streaming. Thanks to the advancing technology which made it possible to video stream Mr Ekraan’s discourse around the country. A total of 21 231 heard this talk this morning (yesterday) live through video stream and about the same number of people were expected to benefit from the same talk in the afternoon as they watched the delayed streaming.”

JWs have 452 Kingdom Halls in Zimbabwe and all such Kingdom Halls in areas where they could access electricity and Internet benefited from the video streaming, Hunguka added.

He said this was the first time the organisation has had video streaming to so many places around the country and “it is our hope that in future, many people will benefit from the spiritual programs without having to travel to far-away places which costs money that is hard for many to find.”
