In an exclusive interview with NewsDay at a local hotel, Mojo said they are thrilled to be performing in Zimbabwe and also launching their 10th studio album titled Strictly Roots in Africa for the first time.

“Morgan Heritage band has sent me here (Zimbabwe) to assure our Zimbabwean fans that we will be performing in Zimbabwe in December, as a way of fulfilling the desire of our fans who wanted us to perform in Zimbabwe for the past decades,” Mojo said.

“We promise an amazing show filled with static energy that will complement a classic playlists. At the concert, we will also be launching our 10th album Strictly Roots which carries a universal message.”

He said the album Strictly Roots represents their first independent project on their record label Cool To Be Conscious Music (CTBC) Music Group.

“Strictly Roots represents our first album released independent of VP Records. VP Records has been great for the group and we are grateful for our years with them, but we just felt it was time to approach the release of our music differently,” Mojo said.

Some of the tracks on the album are Light It Up featuring Jo Mersa Marley, Rise and Fall, Child of Jah featuring Chronixx, Why Dem Come Around, Put It On Me, Keep on Jammin featuring Shaggy, Sunday Morning and Celebrate Life.

Divine Assignments representative Lawrence Chinoperekwei told NewsDay that they decided to fly Mojo into the country as a new innovation, unlike the traditional way of confirming a show through a video drop which he said can be abused or manipulated.

“We are still sorting out the paper work with the relevant authorities but as Divine Assignments we thrive for the best and thus bringing Morgan Heritage will be a way of honouring our fans who have supported us through thick and thin,” Chinoperekwei said.

“This show will be a Christmas and New Year present as we stick to what Zimbabweans fans ask for from us.”

Undoubtedly one of contemporary reggae’s most powerful forces on the global stage, Morgan Heritage was formed in 1994.
