Caroline Chisamba (23) was remanded in custody to November 27 for trial, but will know of her bail application fate next Tuesday.

“For now you are remanded to November 27 for trial and I will be making a ruling on your bail application on Tuesday morning after the State confirms that the St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, address you gave in the application is genuine,” Mazhande said.

There was a moment of drama after Chisamba enquired from the court where she would be residing in the meantime.

Mazhande then clarified: “For now you will be in custody.”

Chisamba, who is denying the theft charges, in her bail application said she had a minor child and resided in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza. She said the house is owned by her parents.

It is the State’s case that on November 17, Mahere left $900 in her wallet, which was in a cabinet drawer before going to work leaving the maid at home.

It alleged that on Mahere’s return that same day, she found her wallet missing and searched in the house as she wanted to pay some building contractors.

The State alleges that Mahere asked her maid, who denied ever seeing the money.

Mahere will testify during the trial.

Tatenda Mushoriwa is prosecuting the case.
