The Taku Shariwa-coached side is one point clear of second-placed rivals, Mutare City, who have played one game more.

Hartley have amassed 62 points from 29 matches, while Mutare City dropped points after they played to a two-all stalemate against Masvingo City at Mucheke Stadium on Sunday.

With four matches to play this season, Hartley are emerging as favourites to win topflight league promotion.

Hartley still have to play against Melfort after the match failed to kick-off last Wednesday following a wrangle over the vetting of players. The Eastern Region management is set to deliberate over the matter this week.

Masvingo United‘s chances of ending the season at the top also faded when they drew nil-all with an improved Mutare Polytechnic side.

Yuna Yuna, as they are affectionately known by their fans, are third with 58 points from 30 matches.

Despite the setback, Masvingo United team manager, Philip Shumba said they are focusing on their upcoming four matches.

“This is football and we still believe, we just need to focus on our remaining matches and we find out what happens to other teams, we have 12 points to play for and it can change at the top of the standings,” he said.

Hartley and Mutare City still have to play against each other at Sakubva stadium and that match will probably decide the destiny of the league title.
