School headmaster, Caleb Sithole said the children were injured, as they tried to flee the damaged classrooms and sustained deep cuts on the head and hands.

He said the injured pupils were rushed to nearby Rimbi Clinic where they were treated and discharged the following day.

Sithole said many children at the school, with an enrolment of over 1 000, were now learning in the open after four classroom blocks were destroyed by the vociferous squall which hit the area on Monday.

“The wind destroyed 112 asbestos, 30 purlins and 29 ridges as it swept a four-classroom block donated by Solon Foundation,” he said.

Sithole said the incident came at a time when the school was using meagre resources to construct two new classrooms blocks. A school alumni, William Mahlonga, appealed to well-wishers to assist in repairing the damages.
