A parade will be held in Kwekwe, with his body set to be taken to Baghdad and Torwood stadiums.

Gundani, who succumbed to a short illness, with doctors suspecting cerebral malaria or meningitis, played for both Lancashire Steel and Ziscosteel.

His body will be taken from the parlour at 1pm today before the street parade, where friends and fans are set to unite in tribute, before the send-off.

Former teammates, current and former players, coaches, adminstrators, friends and family will deliver their tributes after the body arrives back at his home in Fitchlea medium density suburb.

At the time of his death, Gundani was the secretary-general of the Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe.

His death came as a shock to many, as he only complained of a headache on Tuesday before he died the following day, just after he had been admitted to hospital, with doctors carrying out tests to ascertain his ailment.

Yesterday, some former players and coaches, who include Hebert Dick and former Shabanie coach, Solomon Kaseke, spent the better part of the day at Gundani’s place.

Tributes continued to pour in for Gundani, who was part of the popular Reinhard Fabisch-coached Dream Team from the 90s, which fell narrowly short of qualifying for the 1994 Fifa World Cup.

A statement from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League yesterday read: “The Premier Soccer League has learnt with great shock and sorrow of the untimely death of Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general and Warriors legend, Paul Gundani, who passed away on November 4, 2015 in Kwekwe. His death has left a huge void in the football fraternity.

“Gundani contributed immensely to the development of football in Zimbabwe.

“He was not only a great player and football hero, but a pillar of strength to players. His contribution will forever be cherished.”
