Speaking at a press conference in Harare on Tuesday, Zaha director-general Killer Zivhu said with commitment, it was possible to significantly reduce the country’s national housing backlog which stood at 1,2 million units.

“With the Build Zimbabwe scheme, Zaha is working towards implementation of what is highlighted in the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) which is to provide houses to the majority of Zimbabweans who are homeless,” Zivhu said.

“This scheme is set to change lives of millions of Zimbabweans who had lost faith in some housing schemes regarding what is happening were some houses have been demolished people losing millions of dollars in the process due to bogus land barons and housing cooperatives.”

Zivhu said they want to bring a new horizon in Zimbabwe and encourage the spirit of savings to own some properties by this favourable scheme that will have conducive the rates of interest.

“As part of this scheme Zaha will be working with a local banks and an international financial institution. Interested members will open a savings account and can only make payment to Zaha upon the unveiling of the stands unlike the case with some associations who make members pay for non-existent stands.”

He added: “With this Build Zimbabwe project we are going to use modern technology and building material. We are going to kick start the project in Chitungwiza before taking it to other provinces.”

Zivhu said Zaha was ready to partner with the government and other stakeholder who share the same vision of providing houses at an affordable rate.

“We are confident that this project will be a successful as we have our own new state-of-the-art construction equipment to do the work. At present we have already proved our capacity to deliver through some of our successful housing projects in Norton and Masvingo,” he said.
