BY SILENCE CHARUMBIRA

This cunning act was disclosed in court on Thursday when a Harare man, Last Sithole appeared before magistrate Arnold Maburo accused of robbing Conilius Matiashe of his vehicle, cellphone and other property.

Sithole, who pleaded not guilty to the offence was remanded in custody to November 4 for trial.

It was the State’s case that on May 9 last year at around 8pm, Matiashe was driving in the company of his friend, Wesley Chitate along a dust road that connects Zimphos and Msasa Park, when he slowed down intending to negotiate his way past a deep pothole.

The State alleges suddenly, five men emerged from the bush and started throwing stones at his Toyota Corolla, they then approached the car and pulled Matiashe and Chitate out.

Later they assaulted and stripped them naked before robbing them of all their belongings before binding them with shoeslaces and they disappeared with the car.

The State says Matiashe managed to free Chitate and himself before proceeding to his house, where they got clothes and reported the matter to the police.

The car was later recovered parked at Retreat Farm in Hopley, with its front windows broken.

Police received information that Abson Chabe was using a stolen phone and upon being questioned, Chabe told the police he had bought the phone from Paymore Charima, who was allegedly in the company of the robbers.
