The third truck, according mayor Hubert Fidze, broke down and this has forced the city to purchase another one, which should be delivered by the end of this year or early 2016.

“Currently, we are relying on two refuse collection trucks. One services the central business district, but is overwhelmed. The second one then does the rounds in the residential areas.

“These two vehicles may succumb to pressure and sometimes break down or go for service and as a result there will not be refuse collection on time. We, however, appeal to residents not to dump rubbish everywhere, as the trucks will come, even on Sundays, to collect refuse. The third one is old and broke down,” he said.

“We bought a refuse truck outside the country and it is on its way now. If all goes well, it should be delivered by the end of December or early January, so that we can stick to our normal refuse collection timetables.”
