Mens Shorts: Shorts are a mainstay in summer fashion. As the weather warms up, they are an easy go-to for the simple reason that they are a no-brainer to stay cool in unforgiving heat. For most men, casual shorts are a must-have for the weekend wardrobe and with the festive season around the corner, a staple on long journeys and on holiday. However, while shorts can be a versatile addition to your wardrobe, many men only choose one category of shorts to wear regularly, and style it the same way with every wear. Freshen up your look this Summer by picking a few pairs of shorts in different colours and styles. Even old favourites can be updated!

Sporty: The sporty short can easily be spotted on the soccer pitch or at the gym, but its lightweight design makes it a desirable option for the hot season, with plenty of varied designs that are stylish and modern. Choose a plain pair, or one with coloured trim for a fun twist.

Add a colour block tee or a printed tee for a bit of interest, or choose a crisp white t-shirt for a more muted look. Don’t let your shoes let you down — a pair of sandals is fine if you’re going to the supermarket, a pair of plimsolls, hi-top sneakers or a sleek running shoe look cool yet effortlessly presentable. Just because your look is sporty doesn’t mean it can’t use some accessories-throw on a cool backpack and some shades.

Denim: This classic material can be worn in a variety of washes. Distressed denim is trendy and adds a bit of edge. Cuffed shorts which are rolled just above the knee are all the rage this summer. A pair of cuffed denim shorts provides a style option that looks more put-together than the sporty short, making it a more refined option for a lunch outing, braai, or out and about.

Don’t go too baggy with the t-shirt, but keep the look clean-cut with a slim-fit v-neck or tank in light fabrics such as cotton. A cool canvas sneaker completes this look, or a pair of deck shoes or loafers for a more conservative approach.

Cotton: Cotton check and twill provide some of the most variety you can add to your Summer shorts wardrobe. Whether it’s a pair of plain neutral chino shorts, coloured cuffed shorts or the much-loved cargo short, cotton is easy to style and easy to wear. You can also find a wide range of printed shorts if you’re not afraid to play with pattern.

Dress a pair of cotton shorts up by wearing them with a button-up shirt and a muted shoe. Dress them down with a fun tee and a trendy sneaker. A good belt, an interesting hat and beaded necklaces and bracelets are all accessory options that make your outfit conservative, interesting or cool.
