We dream of and envisage a future where life will be perfect. Oftentimes we’re so futuristic in our approach to life that we forget to live today and now. This robs us of the joy of the gift of life and we end up missing the necessary experiences of life. We’re becoming who we are while aiming for higher goals. The habits that characterise us are being developed along the path to our dream being and future. Always acquaint yourself with the current self because therein lies the beauty of life. Whether you’re passing through a harsh and adverse phase, see life in it. You may be at the zenith, also grasp life and enjoy it.

Devotion by Erasmus Makarimayi

Sometimes we neglect our present life hoping to treat ourselves well when we attain a certain level in life. We don’t live right waiting to do so after certain parameters are in place. Bodily exercise isn’t practiced until it’s too late. We’re deprived of life in anticipation of when. Unrecoverable life has been lost while waiting for certain conditions to be met. Don’t park your life, go out and enjoy. The Kingdom of God always starts in seed form. You should not wait until you have a car to visit relatives and friends, who knows when the car comes you will be complaining about fuel. As your life unfolds, maximise every now moment of it.

Imagine the years that you haven’t loved your spouse as you ought to have done because you were waiting for when she/he does this or that. Her/his birthday or Valentine’s Day is still too far, enjoy each others company right now. You probably neglected the honour and care due to your parents because you were waiting for a salary increase. Maybe your loved ones have passed on and you now regret and are hurting. I pray that the Lord delivers you from depression and emotional wounds. Stop crying over spilt milk, the God of mercy will see you through life. Wipe your tears and dress up and move on guiltlessly.

One of the truths you and I have to know is that we’re not God. It seems so simple and obvious, but we have missed the benefits of this side of life because we don’t fully comprehend the difference between the Creator and the created. We get into God’s shoes and demand of ourselves what God hasn’t demanded thus denying us the divine peace and comfort available to humans. Someone may rush to say that I am advocating for loose and evil behaviour, no, I am saying enjoy life totally surrendered to God. Remember you will not be as old as you are now when the future comes. I don’t intend to be negative or instill fear in you. If you don’t treat yourself now and enjoy your life maybe your physical and psychological tastebuds will be different. Your tea or coffee will be without sugar and milk or you will be off meat diet and only vegetables without salt and oil. I’m not advising you to overindulge, conduct yourself wisely.

We’re so anxious and gripped with fear that the undesirable outcome may pop up. If you’re in Christ there’re positive decisions that you have to make. You have to believe that life will turn out for good. God Himself states in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Whether you’re sick or healthy; rich or poor and broke, you’re heading for a better and brighter future. Your worry should, therefore, not be about tomorrow, but be concerned with doing the right and correct thing now. The question that naturally rises is how to be contend in a storm or in the middle of pain and agony. As long as you’re in Christ Jesus, you have an assurance that the end result is super. Romans 8:28 puts it thus, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

The urge for the future shouldn’t deny you your present life. John Lennon says, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” If the truth be told what you really have is now. The past is gone, the future is yet to appear. A focus on now and enjoyment of the present is not a passport to procrastination and laziness. Always be present in your present life, enjoying every moment of it. Never miss your life. Don’t exclude yourself from any part of the process of your life. When you shall look over the shoulder in the future, you will realise that the moments or phases you wished away were the real you and the cornerstones of your essence. When you cry, don’t despair, cry in hope. Make the best of every moment of your life.
