BOTSWANA sensation Naledi Kaisara, known as Slizer on the showbiz scene, will not be part of this year’s Dhewa Commemoration gigs organised to pay tribute to the late sungura maestro Tongai Dhewa Moyo starting tomorrow at Dandaro Inn, Showgrounds, Harare.

Dhewa died on October 15 2011 of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells.
Slizer, who has been part of the star-studded line-up of performers for the past two years, will be in Mozambique marketing her latest 10-track album called Ke-Bina-Peste.
Slizer’s local manager Gift Petro told NewsDay Slizer, rumoured also to have been in a relationship with Peter Moyo, would have loved to be in Zimbabwe for the show.
“Slizer enjoyed cordial musical relations with Peter’s late father, Tongai, and it is sad that we are not going to be part of the annual Dhewa Commemorations this year as the dates coincide with our Mozambique tour which is starting this weekend.
“We would have loved to perform at the memorial gigs in solidarity with some of the artistes who are going to perform. May Tongai’s soul continue to rest in peace.”

The young Igwe, as Peter Moyo is fondly known on the local showbiz scene, has lined up a number of shows to honour his father.
Tomorrow dendera ace Suluman Chimbetu and his Orchestra Dendera Kings and dancehall chanter Seh Calaz among other artistes will take turns to entertain patrons kick-starting a series of commemoration gigs that will spread to other towns.
“October is a memorable month to the Moyo family and the entertainment fraternity as it is the month I lost my father and as a way of honouring him starting this weekend we will be hosting some shows meant to honour his great works,” Moyo said.
“We are urging fans to come in their numbers on Thursday (tomorrow) and have fun together while remembering the music legend.”
After the Dandaro gig, the commemorations continue with another show at Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield on Friday and Peter will share the stage with dancehall chanter Kinnah with DJ Cables on the turntables. On Saturday, the Utakataka Express front-man drives to Chinhoyi for another show with Romeo Gasa and Ricky Fire at CSC Social Club. He will be back in the capital on Sunday for a family show alongside Jah Prayzah, Jean Masters and Kinnah at Jongwe Corner in Hatfield.
