The Zimbabwe Under-23 side would be looking to get their first win at the Games after their disappointing start, losing 1-0 to Burkina Faso on Monday, while their opponents will also hope to erase their 2-1 loss to hosts Congo. Burkina Faso and the Red Devils lead the group with three points following their opening round wins.

Young warriors captain Wisdom Mutasa (C) celebrates his goal against Cameroon as fellow players join in at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

A loss for Zimbabwe in this match will certainly see them crashing out of the tournament while a draw might still not be enough to get them to the next round.

Group winners and runners-up will progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Moyo, who played the entire match against Burkina Faso, reckons the team did well but could not make use of the numerous chances they created.

“We played well, but we missed a lot of chances. We need to improve to win the two remaining matches,” said Moyo. The Young Warriors will conclude their group matches with a clash against hosts Congo on Sunday, the same time Burkina Faso will be facing Sudan.

The Sudanese will be eyeing a victory against Zimbabwe to make a mark in their maiden appearance in the tournament and improve their chances of making through to the knockout stages.

Zimbabwe are making their third appearance at the finals after their debut at the 1991 Cairo finals where they finished fourth before winning a silver medal four years later on home soil.

The Nation Dube-coached side qualified for the tournament after beating Cameroon, one of the most successful teams in the history of the championships, to the sole ticket to the multi-sport games.
