RENEWAL Democrats of Zimbabwe leader Elton Mangoma, has pledged financial compensation for all victims of Zanu PF misrule dating back to the Gukurahundi era, Murambatsvina displacements and launch of the land reform, once his three-month-old party has won the 2018 elections.

Mangoma made the pledge during his party’s women’s inaugural congress at Old Hararians Sports Club on Saturday. The party was formed in June this year after Mangoma and his followers broke ranks with MDC Renewal Team fronted by former Finance minister Tendai Biti.
“We will live to people’s expectations unlike our adversaries Zanu PF which has churned out promises to the people that have not yet been fulfilled,” Mangoma said.
“I speak this in light of the ZimAsset [Zanu PF government’s five-year economic blueprint, Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation] which has since been a failure and also the new 10 point plan which I can safely say it does not hold any hope for the deteriorating Zimbabwean economy.”
“Those who suffered at the hands of the State as of 1980 to date should be paid and in this case I refer to Gukurahundi, Murambatsvina, land reform and many other unscrupulous acts.”
Mangoma also castigated MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai for playing into Zanu PF’s hands.

“Morgan Tsvangirai’s party is involved in all kinds of corruption and brutality. It ain’t long ago when he shuttered the hopes of his people by merely forgetting them when he got into office and he recently instigated Murambatsvina 2 which has since left a lot of people homeless,” he said.
During the party’s women’s wing elections Hilda Sibanda from Masvingo was elected party chairperson with Sibongile Ncube from Midlands South deputising her.
The secretary-general’s post was won by Muriel Rumhungwe from Manicaland while Sithabiso Masina (Bulawayo) will be her deputy.
Elizabeth Ndlovu (Matabeleland South) won the treasurer’s post and her deputy is Nesta Chikorwa from Mashonaland East.
Noreen Chiweshe (Harare) and Kuda Mutsopotsi (Mashonaland West) were elected organising secretary and deputy, respectively. Aines Alibi from Chitungwiza and her deputy Chipo Musonza (Mashonaland Central) would be responsible for information and publicity.
Secretary for elections will be Matilda Zvenyika from Midlands South and Angeline Keswa from Matabeleland North will be the secretary for policy.
