Darikwa has for a long time been battling with the idea of either committing to Zimbabwe or waiting for a chance to play for England.

Tendai Darikwa

He was born in the UK to Zimbabwean parents.

But the snub has signalled that he might have made up his mind to play for the Three Lions instead of the Warriors.

A Zifa official told NewsDay yesterday that the player had communicated to the mother body that he is unavailable for the national team, even though he has a clean bill of health and is expected to feature for his club this weekend.

“He has already communicated that he is not available to play for the Warriors in this match,” said the Zifa official. “It is unlikely he will play for Zimbabwe, he might have opted to play elsewhere.”

His club posted on their website that Darikwa had been called up to represent Zimbabwe.

Zifa is, however, waiting for official communication from his club.

There are other players whose availability is in doubt and Pasuwa might be forced to redraw his squad having first come up with a star-studded group.

The squad contains seven European-based players, among them, Bonnie Macauley who has already earned his first cap for the Warriors.

Strikers Knowledge Musona and Nyasha Mushekwi are expected to join the squad as is Denmark based Quincy Antipas.
