Under the system, vendors from all over the world are given the opportunity to supply the United Nations (UN) system with goods and services it require.

ZimTrade revealed that in 2014, the UN procured goods and services worth $3,2 billion and this presented a huge opportunity for local companies.

“Currently, participation by developing countries in UN tenders is minimal due to lack of exposure on how the system operates,” said ZimTrade.

“According to the UNPD, only 16 Zimbabwean companies are currently registered under the system.”

ZimTrade said it would host a vendor briefing and registration seminar to be conducted in Harare and Bulawayo by the UNPD next month. The body said the workshop was a follow up to a similar one held in Harare in 2012.

The seminar will assist Zimbabwean companies with a potential to supply the UN system to register on the UN vendor roster, ZimTrade said.

It said business opportunities within the global humanitarian market would be shared with the participants.

ZimTrade said it was inviting companies who could supply goods and services which are frequently procured by the UNPD to participate in the seminar.

These include air transportation services; chemical and petroleum products; food rations and catering; prefabricated buildings; motor vehicles; parts and transportation equipment; electronic data processing equipment and maintenance; telecommunications equipment and services; architecture, engineering and construction services; freight forwarding and delivery; air conditioning, heating and plumbing; building management and maintenance; security and safety equipment and services.
