Although police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she was unaware of the accident, it is understood that Machacha was in the company of Gilbert Musungwa and another female party member only identified as Mrs Sithole.

Musungwa confirmed the accident which he said occurred at around 1am on Tuesday morning.

“I am fine. I am out of hospital and so is Cde Machacha, but Mrs Sithole has been taken to the theatre at Harare Central Hospital after breaking her collar bone,” Musungwa said.

He said he was asleep when the accident happened, but only remembered that the truck rolled three times.

Machacha was in May this year fired from the commissariat department over allegations of sympathising with ousted former Vice-President Joice Mujuru, but was later reinstated.

The Mbire seat fell vacant after David Butau was expelled from the party over his alleged links to the Mujuru camp.

Joshua Moyo is now set to represent the ruling party in the by-elections to be held on September 19 after he won the Zanu PF primary elections.
