While one of the victims lost his life on the spot, another victim in the same accident is nursing serious injuries at Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was admitted soon after being knocked down by Shoana Chuma.

A remorseful Chuma pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje who remanded him out of custody to today for sentence.

Allegations leading to Chuma’s arrest were that last Sunday evening he was driving his vehicle in the inner lane along Harare-Bulawayo Road at high speed and as a result he failed to stop when he got close to a Nissan Sunny which had broken down ahead of him.

The State alleges on approaching a T-junction Chuma failed to see the now deceased Aaron Diwa and one Simbarashe Chaparapata who were pushing the broken-down Nissan Sunny and as a result rammed into the right rear of the said vehicle knocking down the two men in the process.

The court heard Diwa died on the spot while Chaparapata sustained serious injuries and is still recovering at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

In his mitigation Chuma also told the court that he regretted his actions and had also assisted financially during Diwa’s burial: “I even attended his burial yesterday (Wednesday),” he said.

Percy Mugariri appeared for the State.
