The 27th edition of the Copa Coca-Cola national finals take centre-stage in Bulawayo this morning with defending boys champions in the Under-16 competition Chemhanza High School taking on Prince Edward (Group B) at Barbourfields Stadium’s outside grounds.

A total of 24 schools were due in Bulawayo yesterday for the annual National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Copa Coca-Cola tournament national finals with the first prize in the Under-16 boys being $6 500 and the girls Under-17 fighting for the $3 000 top prize.

Chemhanza is in Group B with Prince Edward and Nemakonde.

Prince Edward will then clash with Nemakonde and the latter dating the defending champions in the last game in Group B.

The boys have been placed into four groups with Rujeko locking horns with Mpopoma in Group A, before another match with Mutare Boys.

Mpopoma will then play Mutare Boys in Group A’s last match.

Group C’s first match will feature Dewure and Guinea Fowl with the former playing their second game against hosts Gifford who will finish off that group’s games against Guinea Fowl.

Tsholotsho and How Mine start in Group D with the second match featuring Tsholotsho and Bernard Mizeki College.

How Mine will then finish off with Bernard Mizeki.

The semi-finals will be played today with finals being played at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow morning.

Zifa-accredited referees will be handling all the matches with Nash vice-president Arthur Maphosa saying accreditation and vetting were expected to have been done yesterday afternoon at Gifford High, the tournament’s hosts for the boys.

The defending champions in the girls’ Under-17 tournament, Chidyamakono, are in Group A and play the second match of that group against Furamera after the first match that features the latter against Selonga at Mzilikazi High School.

Girls’ hosts Montrose play the Group C first game against Masase at McKeurtan Primary School.

Masase then take on Binyane in the second game before Montrose play Binyane in the last game.

Group B’s first game features Sodbury and Mwenezi at Mzilikazi High with Sodbury playing the second against Seke High 1 and the final match pitting Mwenezi against Seke High 1.

Robert Tredgold Primary School will host the girls Group D and the first match is between St Francis and Magwegwe.

The second match features St Francis and Nyamauru before Magwegwe and Nyamauru play the last game of the group stages.
