CAPE TOWN — South African Premiership football side Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the signing of Zimbabwean striker Thomas Chideu following successful trials at Ikamva.

Chideu, along with Prince Nxumalo, managed to impress Roger de Sa and his coaching staff during pre-season training and both have since been handed professional contracts.

Urban Warriors chief executive officer Ari Efstathiou confirmed the news in a statement yesterday, which read: “We welcome both Prince and Thomas into the Ajax family. They are both great additions to our squad. I’m sure our Ajax fans will warm up to them very quickly as both players will contribute immensely to our attack force.

“I have no doubt that they will both succeed at Ajax Cape Town.“

Chideu will be joining another former Highlanders player Milton Ncube who went to Ajax at the beginning of last year.

Chideu, a former Prince Edward High School player, joined Highlanders in January and has since scored one goal for Bosso in the 3-0 win against Flame Lily in Harare.

De Sa said there were no more deals being discussed currently as he prepares to go into the new season with a young, but talented squad, which managed a fifth-place finish last season and were one penalty score away from winning the Nedbank Cup. — ONLINE/SPORTS REPORTER
