IT TOOK just 16 minutes for Brian Muzondiwa to score his first ever hat-trick as FC Platinum razed down Buffaloes to the ground in a Castle Lager Premiership football match played at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.
The defeat added more woes to the Saul Chaminuka-coached side, who was, however, not part of the technical team as he was said not to be feeling well.
Yesterday’s defeat means the soldiers have conceded seven goals against Pure Platinum Play after losing 4-1 in the reverse fixture. Muzondiwa was over the moon after his achievement.
“I was not expecting to score a hat-trick, but this is football, anything can happen. This is my first hat-trick and I believe this will go a long way in motivating me,” he said.
His coach Norman Mapeza was worried with the state of the ground, but was generally satisfied with his side’s performance.
“I had fears over the state of the ground, but after scoring our first goal we stabilised and we won the match in the first half. The second half was not good as we created few scoring chances,” he said.

The army side’s assistant coach Joseph Takaringofa said the break affected his side’s rhythm.
“The break affected our rhythm, and we were not training for a long time and other teams were playing friendly matches and we were not. We also conceded silly goals and I was not happy with our defending,” he said.
The visitors took the lead in the 28th minute through Muzondiwa who headed Tatenda Dzumbunu cross into the nets.
It appears as if Buffaloes defenders were on holiday yesterday after they gifted Muzondiwa with another goal four minutes later. He benefited from a defence mix-up by Joseph Jambo and Shepherd Nkata, who could not communicate and Muzondiwa ghosted from the blind side to poke home his second goal of the afternoon.
Muzondiwa returned to hunt the home side again in the 44th minute after also benefiting from the home side’s defence mix up and the failure by goalkeeper Chengetai Tandadzayi to arrange his defensive lines.
In the second half FC Platinum were more content in defending in their numbers, but still, Muzondiwa could have scored his fourth goal of the afternoon, but failed to beat Tandadzayi in a face-to-face situation.
In the 62nd minute Walter Musona’s striker was ruled for an offside by Masvingo-based referee Makonese Masakadza.
Buffaloes’ only meaningful chance in the second half came in the 88th minute, but Lloyd Katongomara failed to beat Petros Mhari.
