The Headlands constituency fell vacant after Zanu PF recalled from Parliament Didymus Mutasa following his sacking from the ruling party on allegations of plotting to oust President Robert Mugabe.

David Mukunda, who is contesting under the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) ticket, yesterday alleged his campaign posters were being removed by suspected Zanu PF youths who were not targeting those of ruling party candidate Christopher Chingosho.

Mukunda will battle it out with Chingosho and another independent candidate Albert Mukaratirwa.

“There are no intensive campaign rallies taking place in the area. Zanu PF youths loyal to Chingosho are removing and tearing my posters and those of another independent candidate,” he alleged.

“I am shocked to discover that most of my posters are being torn or removed. I view this as an act of intolerance by Zanu PF members. It is very sad that the culprits are only removing posters of opposition candidates and leaving those of Zanu PF. Zanu PF militia are notorious for such acts.”

Zanu PF acting provincial chairperson Samuel Undenge could not be reached for comment.
