Mawire’s picture titled Technosavvy Generation won the prize ahead of other journalists and photographers from Africa and Europe.

Taken in Harare, the photo depicts how today’s younger generation, and even the older generation, are becoming technologically minded and advanced.

“Like a wave or the winds of change, communities in the developing world are keeping up pace with new technologies like mobile communication and this prompted me to take the picture which I submitted for the competition,” said an ecstatic Mawire.

“I am very happy and humbled to win the first prize considering that many people, especially from Africa and beyond participated in the competition.”

Mawire urged upcoming photographers to take photography seriously as this could be a source of livelihood.

Mawire walked away with a tablet, digital camera and smart phone. The competition was open to journalists and individual photographers with images illustrating how communication tools and information technologies can build bridges and foster relationships between people.

The winning photos and the best pictures awarded by the jury are set to feature in an exhibition at e-Learning Africa 2015.

South Africa’s Nick Holmes’ picture titled Busy Class, Edwin Musoni’s Tech for Girls —The story of Chimene Umutoniwase of Rwanda, Janet Chapman of Tanzania, Donald Clark of the United Kingdom and Duke Mwancha of Kenya also had their images voted as the jury’s best pictures.

Osishanya Tokunbo from Nigeria emerged the winner with his photo titled IC Contributes to the Fight Against Ebola in the Public Vote Winner category.

Ghana’s Noah Alorwu and Ezekiel Agbomey were on second and third places respectively with their images titled ICT Reduces Cost and e-Learning: the Tool for Effective Communication”.
