Peter Nyachega (33), of Tengwe village under Chief Muparutsa, was convicted and sentenced yesterday when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Sekai Chiundura charged with physical abuse under section 3 (1) of Domestic Violence Act chapter 5.16.

The court heard that sometime in November last year, Nyachega circumcised his two sons aged two and four years using a nail cutter.

“I think these children will be better off without you. You circumcised them with a nail cutter, so you are bad father. So I am sending you to jail so that you will come back a good father,” Chiundura said.

In his defence, Nyachega told the court that his father had also circumcised him using a nail cutter during his childhood, so he did not see anything wrong with that.

Shepherd Chivarika prosecuted.
