BUSINESSPEOPLE at Magunje Growth Point in Hurungwe last week recorded brisk trade when more than eight Christian denominations held their Easter church gatherings at the business centre.

The churches, which included Zaoga, The True Apostolic Faith MissionaChurch, The Salvation Army, Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Apostolic Faith Mission, Johanne Marange, and several Pentecostal denominations, spent four days camped at the growth point.
Businessman Obadiah Gumbo, who owns Evergreen Supermarket, said: “I was very happy this Easter holiday because these churches brought in many customers. I have recorded high sales since last Friday. I have made profits and I need to thank the Lord for loving this growth point”.
Kombi operators plying the Magunje-Karoi route also took advantage of the increased human traffic and hiked their fares from $1 to $2 per trip.
“We have increased transport fares because most commuter buses have been hired by these churches, leaving few on the roads. To be honest my brother, we have made money this Easter holiday,” kombi operator Nicholas Jani said.
Daniel Mbewe ,secretary-general of one of the churches camped at the business centre, said: “It’s very rare to have more than seven big churches at a small growth point like this. It clearly shows that God loves people in this region.”
