Bosso wary of Chapungu

Two victories against Tsholotsho and Hwange with goals coming from defenders Teenage Hadebe and Webster Chingodza in two respective games, a goalless draw and one defeat have characterised Bosso’s start to the new season.

Highlanders host bottom-placed Chapungu at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow after playing a goalless draw against Buffaloes at Sakubva on Easter Monday.

With seven points in the bag and perching on position six on the log table, it’s a tall order for the Bosso strikers, who have to come to the party and start banging goals and foist up competition with the top five teams. Pacesetters Triangle and fifth-placed ZPC Kariba have each scored 10 goals in four matches.

Supported by attacking midfielders Bruce Kangwa and Welcome Ndiweni and Nqobizitha Masuku, alarm bells should start ringing for forwards Thomas Chideu and Gabriel Nyoni in the Highlanders’ camp or perhaps the creativity moving forward.

Coach Bongani Mafu yesterday said it will not be easy game playing Chapungu, who are hard-pressed to start producing good results as they wallow at the bottom of the log table with two defeats and one draw, having scored zero in three starts.

“It is difficult playing a team that is down there. They are a wounded lion and we will give them all the respect because they have the Premiership pedigree. We are going out that to come out with the best result,” Mafu said.

Chapungu head to Bulawayo without goalkeeper Talbert Shumba, who was injured at training and Maxwell Mavhuto, who also picked up an injury in the airmen’s 0-1 loss to champions Dynamos at Ascot on March 28.

Coach John Nyikadzino says his side has been playing well but they are lacking the killer-punch. The Midlanders are yet to score in three matches and had their match against ZPC Kariba on Monday, called off due water-logging at Ascot.

“Highlanders are playing well and we are going to approach them with caution and hopefully we come up with a good result. We are playing well but I am not happy with the chances we are creating and not scoring but I am quite certain, we are heading somewhere,” Nyikadzino said.

In the absence of Shumba, Roy Mazingi will be between the goalposts for Chapungu also have experienced players Hillary Mugoniwa, Tafadzwa Mombeshora, Philip Marufu, Tongai Mangwendere, Blessed Mbavarira, Blessing Zabula and Nhlanhla Ncube.

Chapungu play a more physical game, which might work to their advantage against Highlanders.

Meanwhile, Hwange who played a 1-1 draw with Tsholotsho on Monday after losing to Highlanders a few days earlier entertain Buffaloes at the Colliery on Sunday as they search for their first win of the season.
