“To date, close to 80 international buyers from our global source markets have confirmed their participation out of a target of 120 buyers,” the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) said in a statement yesterday.

“We are likely to beat this target soon as we are working closely with appointed market representatives in Europe such as Aviareps and Ubuntu who are covering France, Benelux market, Spain and Portugal. The ZTA Tourist Offices in the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, United States and Germany are working tirelessly to ensure that we have quality buyers at Sanganai 2015.”

The ZTA added that local operators, accommodation companies and foreign countries had already registered.

“To date, four airlines have committed to exhibit at Sanganai 2015 in order to boost their businesses through networking with various operators who usually create demand for the airlines. We are still calling exhibitors to come and register, space is still available,” ZTA said.

ZTA will select and recruit international buyers to visit Sanganai/Hlanganani expo and conduct business with the exhibitors. The event will have a culinary expo where exhibitors can showcase sets of cooking traditions and practices. Different cuisine such as Asian, Western and African will be showcased on different days, but with a competition slated for the last day.

ZTA could not give figures on the amount of money that the travel fair has realised in the past two years.

“Earnings from a travel fair are not easy to account for as they are realised over a long period of time and are part of the aggregate tourism revenue. The tourism earnings are determined by several global socioeconomic factors which affect international travel in general and are beyond the control of Sanganai exhibiting companies,” ZTA said.
