Midlands State University (MSU) yesterday imposed a daily $2 fine for students who will miss the April 13 registration deadline for the January-June 2015 semester. The institution said besides the penalty fees, unregistered students will not be able to sit for examinations.

“The registration deadline for the January-June 2015 semester is 13 April 2015. Unregistered students are encouraged to take advantage of the mid-semester break (6-12 April 2015) and pay the outstanding fees balances in order to register for the end of semester examinations,” part of the notice reads.

“Late registration period will run from 14 April to 30 April 2015 and all late comers will be penalised at the rate of US$2,00 per day. Please note that unregistered students will be denied entry into the examination room to sit for a module they did not register for.”

Higher Education, Science and Technology Development deputy minister Godfrey Gandawa last year ordered all State universities to allow students under the cadetship programme access to lectures and results despite non-payment of fees.

“Turning away students under the cadetship programme is contrary to government policy. We have since come in and given instructions to institutions to respect the instruction because it is government policy,” Gandawa said.
