COSTA Nhamoinesu, fresh from scoring in the Europa League last week, started again for Sparta Prague as the Czech Republic champions took advantage of leaders Viktoria’s slip to cut the gap to a one after a 2-0 win over Slovecko.

The former Masvingo and AmaZulu defender played the entire game in the win, on the same day that Viktoria lost 2-1 to Vysočina Jihlava. After 14 rounds of the league, Sparta remained in second place with 31 points, one away from the leaders going into the international break. In Denmark, Silas Songani, one of the best players in Zimbabwe last season, came in as an 83rd minute substitute as Sonderjyske beat OB 2-1, but remained in eight h spot after a slow start to the season. Fellow Zimbabwean, Quincy Antipas’ Hobro stunned Brondby 3-0 to move into seventh place. The Warriors international, with three goals this season, played 76 minutes of the match as they overcame a Brondby side that featured former Liverpool defence Daniel Agger and South African international Lebo Phiri. As expected, Knowledge Musona was nowhere in sight as Hoffenheim lost 3-4 at home to Koln in the German Bundesliga. The Warriors striker has been told he has to move, but has ruled out returning to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in January preferring to look for a team in Europe. His agent Mike Makaab told our sister paper The Standard that there is a lot of interest in the Zimbabwean international. “Definitely he will be playing in Europe and we are looking at opportunities there. He has said he wants to continue playing in Europe and play regularly. Hopefully we will secure him a move where he would be a regular as he desires,” Makaab said. “Knowledge is back to full fitness and doing well at training. He is eager to start playing. However, one can never rule out any other kind of move. “We have already started talking to certain clubs,” he said. “There is considerable interest and we have to make sure he gets a club. At the moment, I cannot reveal the clubs interested in him. It would be unfair to start naming at this stage.” In the Australian top-flight league, Tando Velaphi continued on the bench for Melbourne City as they thrashed Brisbane Roar 1-3 on Sunday. In South Africa, Khama Billiat and Cuthbert Malajila could do little other than watch Platinum Stars score just once to knock Mamelodi Sundowns out of the Telkom Knockout at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday.
