Old Mutual Vumba Half Marathon set for November 8

THE 2014 edition of the Old Mutual Vumba Half Marathon will take place on November 8 at the Leopard Rock Hotel, the organisers have confirmed.

The race was initially slated for this weekend, but was pushed to next month as Leopard Rock Hotel was fully booked.

There was chaos in the 21km main event after Harare-based Blue Stars club athlete Coniscious “Navara” Nyamutsita hit the ribbon first after just 57 minutes to break the world record of 58,23 minutes set by Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea in 2010 in Lisbon.

But it was later realised that Navara he had cut more than three kilometers due to lack of markings.

Manicaland Athletics Board chairman Joshua Matume said: “The race will be finally held on November 8.

“We hope this year the race is going to attract many athletes just like in the previous three years.”

Rutendo Nyahora and Collin Kanyimo clinched last year’s race in the male and female categories respectively.

Nyahora clocked 1hr 20 min 18sec while Kanyimo was first with a good time of 1hr 9min 53sec and they received $1 000 each.
