SOME 11 families at Chigumira Farm, part of Eskbank in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Province, have been living in the open since Friday after they were reportedly evicted and their makeshift homes allegedly burnt down by the messenger of court officials accompanied by the police.
SOME 11 families at Chigumira Farm, part of Eskbank in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Province, have been living in the open since Friday after they were reportedly evicted and their makeshift homes allegedly burnt down by the messenger of court officials accompanied by the police.
The families were evicted to pave way to four unnamed individuals with government offer letters giving them ownership of the 40-hectare farm.
The families were among about 50 others who invaded the farm forcing a former white commercial farmer out of the property in 2000, but they had not received offer letters for the property.
When a NewsDay crew arrived at the scene, the families had their belongings – which included household furniture and maize- stacked near the main Harare-Bindura highway. They displayed placards denouncing their eviction.
