The women was in police custody on suspicion of stealing $310.

Naume Mukanakana of Dangamvura, Mutare, told presiding magistrate Mukwengi yesterday that a female officer based at Chisamba Police Station in Sakubva assaulted her despite her pregnancy. She also claimed to be asthmatic.

At law, police officers are not allowed to assault suspects in their custody.
