International designers jet in for Zim Fashion Week

INTERNATIONAL designers and models arrived in the country over the weekend ahead of the annual Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) that starts tomorrow at Harare City Library.

Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, spokesperson for the event Tinopona Katsande said preparations of the fashion extravaganza were at an advanced stage.

“All is going according to the script with international designers, among them Leigh Schubert and Thula Sindi both from South Africa, Durban-based Zimbabwean Thembani Mubochwa, Mustafa Hassanali from Tanzania, Chisome Lombe from Zambia, Jose Rui Lopes from Angola and Rahima Mohamed from United Kingdom being part of the participants at the show,” Katsande said.

“On the local scene, we have Sarudzai Murungu, Tapfumanei Munenge, Nompumelelo Marilyn, Bridget Pisirai and Natsai Mujuru among others who will showcase their designs and exchanging notes with the international designers.

“Nine of the 11 models participating at the event from Uganda, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and United States of America are already in the country ahead of the fashion extravaganza.”

This year’s edition of the show will be running under the theme Afrocentrica.

Katsande said the show would be produced by Jen and Simon Deiner of Group of Creatives from South Africa.

“ZFW exhibitions stall will be open from 3pm and will feature designer trunk shows, jewellery, shoes, and make-up exhibitions,” she said.

“On Sunday, will be hosting the Fashion Night Awards where best or high achievers in categories, among them Male and Female Model of the Year, Fashion Photographer of the year, Makeup Artiste of the Year, Hair Stylist of the Year, Blogger of the Year, Emerging Designer of the Year, Young Designer of the Year, Accessory Designer of the Year, will be honoured.

Models to have come out of previous editions of ZFW are Adrian Green, Arnold Nyangoni, Fisher Masango, Lovemore Zambezi, Tholakele Dhlamini and Clare Bennett, among others.
