The pageant, which celebrates and recognises curvaceous African women, will be held under the theme Supporting Domestic Tourism Through Beauty Pageants.

Models vying for the crown left Harare on August 4 for the boot camp at Simboti Holiday Houses in Kariba.

Speaking to NewsDay, Zim Gossip managing director Mercy Mushaninga, the brains behind the pageant, said all is set for the pageant promising a red carpet event on the grand finale.

“Everything has been moving according to script and the ramp is set with all the contestants raring to go,” Mushaninga said.

“They had been a lot of activities that were lined up for the finalists ahead of tomorrow’s (today) grand finale which included boat cruises and tourism workshops as we seek to promote domestic tourism.”

Apart from modelling extravaganza, urban grooves musician Roki, BaShupi and Judgment Yard Sounds, among others, are billed to perform at the pageant.

Unlike other pageants which celebrate slenderness and pretty faces, which is a more “Westernised” way of appreciating beauty, Miss Curvy Zimbabwe seeks to celebrate and recognise the curvaceous women.

“Any woman with brains who has natural curves, physical beauty and keeps a flat tummy was eligible to enter the pageant as they do not need to have a serious modelling background,” Mushaninga said.
