The new chambers are fronted by top advocates Lewis Uriri, Thabani Mpofu and Speaker of the House of Assembly Jacob Mudenda, who is an executive committee member.

Uriri, who is the chairperson of the newly established chambers and also the head of the General Council of the Bar Association of Zimbabwe, said The Chambers drew its members from the previously practicing advocates.

“We had three advocates coming from the Advocate Chambers Association and one coming from the Harare Law Chambers. We also had advocate Mudenda who had previously been practising from the Bulawayo Bar and we have got three advocates who are practicing in Bulawayo that are members of the chambers, namely advocates Lucas Nkomo, Perpetua Dube and Hilda Moyo,” Uriri said.

Asked if there would be any difference with the other advocates chambers, Uriri said: “The one that was operating is still operating and has its own members, they still house some advocates there just like we do here. Most of their members are affiliated to the Bar Association of Zimbabwe to which we were previously affiliated.

“We have withdrawn our membership from the Bar Association of Zimbabwe and we are now affiliated to the Advocates Association of Zimbabwe which is regulated and registered with the Law Society of Zimbabwe.”
