According to court papers, Mutsetse wants the court to give an order stopping his wife Gelly Chuma from phoning and sending offensive text messages.

He also wants his wife to desist from beating him up or verbally harassing him.

Mutsetse alleges that his wife was in the habit of assaulting him. He said at one time she destroyed their family property in the process.

The businessman, who runs a service station and some shops in and around Chiredzi, also claimed that he no longer stays with his wife, but she was stalking him.

However, Chuma accused Mutsetse of washing their dirty linen in the public.

She denied the allegations accusing her husband of trying to mudsling her and shifting blame for their family problems.

Chuma told the court that they were customarily married and are still staying together in the low density suburb of Chiredzi. She said Mutsetse was the one who abusive and often beat her up every time he came back home late.

Chuma produced a withdrawal statement form which was used to withdraw an assault charge against Mutsetse which she laid against him on April 13 this year.

Mutsetse allegedly assaulted Chuma and injured her finger as outlined in the State papers at the criminal court.

Chuma also claims that on the same day and before she was assaulted Mutsetse threatened her with death.

She alleged that Mutsetse wielded a knife threatening to stab her. She later reported the matter to the police.

Chuma, however, withdrew the case after she was persuaded to do so by the accused, it is alleged.

Chuma, in her opposing papers also said Mutsetse failed to mention the property which she allegedly destroyed.  She said her husband approached the court only to cover his back.

Trial will continue next week when the court is expected to consider submissions from both parties
