Along this ideal, an artiste’s brand is scrutinised and assessed in relation to its appeal to the market. Efforts such as proper use of social media, print media, and electronic media also come into play as these concepts are affiliated with the artistes getting involved in building commercial brands.

The workshop will be running under the theme Be Seen and Be Heard and it will feature established musical artistes, theatre practitioners, television presenters and media practitioners converging in a three-day event.

Also included in the programme are networking events and one-on-one sessions based on the topical subject of how to brand one’s career and establish it as a sustainable business entity.

Speaking to NewsDay, Black Bird said the idea to host the workshop had developed after years of receiving response over social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter from people wanting advice on how to promote themselves maximising on several publicity platforms.

“The response I have received over the past two years from listeners and individual contributors has been overwhelming such that I thought of turning into a programme that would benefit people looking up to build successful brands in their careers,” she said.

Blackbird said she was targeting anyone who felt that publicity played a pivotal role in modelling their careers and this included musicians, actors, models, playwrights, writers, sports personalities and anyone that needs a public profile for their career to blossom.

Having acquired vast experience as a radio Deejay and worked with African artistes in the music industry, Black Bird will lead the three-hour sessions mediating the discussions.

The aim of the workshop is to expose participants to some of the winning strategies of establishing successful and sustainable careers in the music and entertainment industry, and building revenue streams beyond the traditional.

“The workshop will also be hinged on how these several people can actually make proper use of social media and how it can contribute to the blossoming of their career and reach out to the wider world,” she said.

The workshop will also give aspiring Zimbabwean African DJs, agents, songwriters, musicians, producers, managers, publicists, promoters and radio executives a platform to engage one on one and share expertise.

Black Bird is one of the lead creative minds in developing marketing and branding strategies as a trained journalist and has worked for Channel O, Star FM and the H-Metro.

As an artiste she has received regular airplay on several local radio stations while her groundbreaking video that was nominated for the Best Outstanding Video at the this year’s National Arts Merit Awards is also receiving heavy rotation on Channel O and doing well internationally.
