THE Zifa Board is expected to confirm its standing committees when it holds its extraordinary general meeting at Zifa Village and Conference Centre today.

The meeting will be followed by a strategic planning workshop tomorrow.
According to Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela, some of the items that will be on the agenda include the 2014 elections report and the ratification of the 2014-2018 standing committees including the controversial referees committee.
“Some of these standing committees to be ratified include the referees committee, the finance committee and the Zifa ethics committee,” Gwesela said.
The referees committee, previously led by association vice-president Omega Sibanda, had to be dissolved after it was found to be in direct violation of Fifa referees regulations for the vice-president to chair the committee.
The other members of the Zifa committee were retired referee Brighton Malandule, Alfred Zindove, Masimba Chihowa, Sabelo Sibindi Maphosa, Gladmore Muzambi and Dennis Tshuma.
The committees had not been formally approved since Cuthbert Dube won the election in March this year which gave him another four-year mandate at the helm of the soccer controlling body.

Dube convincingly beat the challenge of ex-Zifa chairman Trevor Caresle-Juul by winning the run-off 44 to 14.
In the initial poll, Dube had garnered 34 votes followed by Carelse-Juul with 14 while Leslie Gwindi got 10 votes. The fourth candidate, Nigel Munyati, was humiliated in the poll as he failed to get a single vote.
According to the Zifa constitution, a run-off was necessary as Dube had not achieved the majority two-thirds of the vote required to win the election.
In the second round, Dube got an overwhelming seal of approval from the Zifa electorate when he polled 44 of the possible 58 votes.
The issue of the relegation and promotion of teams into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is also set to be finalised at the meeting. Zifa runs four regions-North, South, East and Central Regions. Most Premier Soccer League clubs have advocated for the relegation and promotion of only two teams.
