The team which comprises of Gerald Shwabane (Division A), Kennan Breda (Division B) and Brighton Nekatambe (Division C) will feature in the regional tournament which runs from June 11-14 at Windhoek Golf and Country Club.

They will play against fellow amateur golfers from hosts Namibia, Zambia, South Africa and Botswana for the Windhoek Lager Green Jacket and a floating trophy.

Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association president Brian Maphosa, who is the tournament’s liaison person for Zimbabwe, said the trio earned their places after emerging victorious in their divisions.

“These were the overall winners in their particular divisions from the tournaments that were played nationwide since November 2013 last year,” Maphosa said.

“The tournament in Windhoek starts on 11th June with a practice round, with the actual tournament on 12, 13th and 14th June.”

The nationwide qualifying tournaments for Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket golf Championship included the Hwange Open (C Division only), the Leopard Rock Open, Dugmore, Mashonaland West Golf Union and the Roland Park Open of which the three highest scores counted.

“The major feature of the qualifying tournaments is that they were spread out throughout the country being played at far flung places as Leopard Rock, Hwange golf club, Roland Park as well as Bulawayo giving it a very good spread.

“The players that have been selected were at the top of each division and will go to Namibia all expenses paid,” Maphosa said.

The prestigious regional tournament was launched at a colourful ceremony at Royal Harare Golf Club on November 19. The launch was also attended by Paul Norris, the Head of Export Marketing at Namibia Breweries.
