This followed over two years of exceptional live performances at different venues and festivals.

The seven-member group — a product of superstar Oliver Mtukudzi’s Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton — delivered their 13-track album titled Vavhimi, enticing the audience with a superb live set.

Songs such as title track Vavhimi, Shumba, Dzoro, Bendekete and Hukama among others left revellers in awe while driving home a rich social commentary.

Speaking to NewsDay on the sidelines of the launch, Outstanding Recording Music Laboratory (producers of the album) production manager Daniel Chindove said the diversity in backgrounds of Tsvete members ensures variety.

“Tsvete consists of members from different backgrounds and they brought in different elements in terms of lyrical composition and authenticity in sound,” he said. “It would not be odd to have them as one of the best groups in Africa in the next five years.”

A member of the band is of Malawian origin, others are Ndebele while some are Shona.

The launch had the full support of young musicians in jazz and other genres that included Munya Mataruse, Gary Tight, Alexio Kawara and Willom Tight who all took to the stage putting up brilliant performances.

Tsvete vocalist Kondwani Thete said: “We are grateful for the warm reception we have had from the fans tonight and the support we received from fellow musicians, it really means a lot to us.”

Thete also extended gratitude to the Culture Fund and the Swedish Embassy.

“I would like to thank Culture Fund, the Royal Swedish Embassy, Orec Music Lab and all those who influenced the growth of our career and assisted in the production of this album one way or the other turning our dream to reality.”
