NEWSDAY sports reporter Daniel Nhakaniso was yesterday named the Golf Reporter of the Year at the inaugural Zimbabwe Golf Awards.

Nhakaniso beat two other reporters for the top award.
“He has excelled in the coverage of local and international golf involving Zimbabweans, conducting in-depth interviews with players (junior and senior) and officials and covering the prestigious Golden Pilsener Golf Open every year since NewsDay started publishing on June 7 2010 and this is a reward for the hard work he has put since then. He definitely has a bright future,” said NewsDay sports editor Wellington Toni.
Zimbabwe’s leading amateur golfer Scott Vincent capped off a memorable season both at home and abroad after being named the country’s Amateur Male Golfer of the Year at the inaugural Zimbabwe Golf Awards held at Chapman Golf Club last night.
The awards — which were held under the theme Celebrating Golf Excellence — were an evening of celebration for past, present and future stars of Zimbabwean golf. The honour is the latest in a long list of accolades won by Vincent this year as it came barely a week becoming the first ever Virginia Tech University golfer to be named on the All-Star All-American.
Vincent, who won three individual tournament titles on the United States collegiate golf circuit, is also the highest ranked African amateur on the men’s world amateur golf rankings on position 21.
Legend Nick Price was honoured for being the country’s International Golf Ambassador together with fellow yesteryear star Tony Johnstone and current PGA Tour player Brendon de Jonge.

Price’s recognition came barely 24 hours after he was retained as 2015 International Presidents Cup team captain on Wednesday evening. In recognition of his efforts to spread the game of golf to the rural areas, veteran golf administrator Tavenganiswa Mabikacheche won the Golf Development Programme of the Year award.
Ryan Cairns won the Professional Golfer of the Year award while junior golfers Krog Stuart and Bekker Daniele won the Male and Female Junior Golfer of the Year awards respectively.
Rising female golfer Yolanda Mbaiwa, who early this year won the Nigeria IBB Ladies Open, was named the Amateur Female Golfer of the Year with Nyamukondiwa Margret walking away with the Most Improved Female Golfer of the Year accolade.
